Updated browser engine
- The underlying Firefox browser engine has been updated to version
155.0.1.
Tabs and homepage
- Tab groups are now enabled by default. This includes the ability to group tabs by dragging and dropping them, reorder them live, and access introductory guidance.
- The tab manager’s opening animation has been enabled.
- The homepage now opens in new tabs by default.
- Homepage customisation, the improved shortcut adding experience and swipeable shortcut pages have been enabled.
- Collections remain available alongside the new tab group features.
- Scroll driven toolbar animations have been enabled to hide and reveal the toolbar while browsing.
Wallpapers and appearance
- Five classic Fennec wallpapers have been added: Algae, Colorful Bubbles, Dark Dune, Dune and Fiery Red. Each one comes in portrait and landscape versions and can be accessed offline. Thanks to Павло Погонець.
- The mismatched tab strip and status bar overlay colours when using custom or black themes have been fixed.
- The accent colours of switches and checkboxes have been corrected to follow the selected theme.
- The homepage wordmark rendering has been fixed and the branding assets have been updated for the refreshed interface.
- The selection borders for custom wallpapers have been updated.
Importing and PDFs
- Bookmark and password importing are enabled by default.
- The new PDF viewer tools have been enabled.
Privacy and control
- Local Network Access protections are enabled by default, including features that block requests and trackers.
- Safeguards against background marketing notifications, experiments, uninstall surveys and unwanted telemetry have been strengthened.
- Saved experimental preferences can no longer re-enable features disabled by Waterfox’s privacy policy.
- Third-party icon manifest lookups and supplied remote image URLs have been removed from the affected shortcut icon paths, while normal website favicon loading has been retained.
- By default, remote crash report request prompts are now hidden. However, manual crash reporting remains available.
- An issue has been fixed where Secret Settings could remain visible in release builds due to a preference saved by an older installation.
Existing preferences
New defaults apply where no saved preference exists. Your existing choices for configurable features are preserved. The DNS-over-HTTPS protection modes and address sync region eligibility remain unchanged; however, features disabled by Waterfox’s privacy policy remain unavailable.
