Updated browser engine
- The underlying Gecko browser engine has been updated to version
156.0.
Tabs and homepage
- Homepage as new tab is now configurable from Settings → Home.
- The search widget no longer overwrites the current tab when homepage as new tab is enabled. It opens a new homepage tab in the correct normal or private mode instead.
- Show more shortcuts is now in normal Home settings. The app still shows up to 16 shortcuts initially versus upstream 8, with inline expand and collapse directly on the homepage.
- Removing a tab from a collection now asks for confirmation for both swipes and the remove button. Cancelling, going Back or dismissing keeps the saved page.
- Erasing private tabs now leaves an empty private Home instead of recreating a tab and notification. Entering private browsing creates nothing until you browse, and returning to normal reuses the Homepage.
Appearance
- Historical Waterfox app icons are available, covering five eras plus the current default. Only Waterfox icons can be selected. Previously enabled icons keep working and now use Waterfox artwork.
- Black gains a Use system theme option, default off. With it on, system light uses your saved light colors and system dark uses Black. With it off, Black stays Black in both modes.
- Picking a theme or editing custom theme colors no longer returns you to Home unexpectedly.
Extensions and files
- Install extension from file is now in normal Settings, no longer hidden behind Secret Settings.
- File uploads now fall back to the system chooser when permissions are denied instead of dismissing, including generic file types.
Existing preferences
New defaults apply where no saved preference exists. Your existing choices for configurable features are preserved.
