Waterfox Password Manager — Alerts for breached websites - Waterfox Support

Waterfox can warn you if a website associated with one of your saved logins has been reported in a known data breach. These alerts help you take action quickly to protect your accounts.

How breach alerts work

• When you save or view a login in Waterfox’s Password Manager (about:logins), Waterfox checks the domain against known breach data.
• If a match is found, Waterfox shows an alert next to the affected login and may display a notification.
• Alerts do not expose your passwords. They indicate that the site has had a reported breach, so you should change your password for that site and anywhere else you reused it.

What to do if you see an alert

1. Change the password for the affected site.
   • Use a strong, unique password. Consider using a reputable password manager.
2. If you reused the same password on other sites, change those passwords too.
3. Update the saved login in Waterfox:
   • Open Menu > Passwords (or visit about:logins).
   • Select the site and edit the password so Waterfox has the latest one.

View and manage your logins

• Open Menu > Passwords to view saved logins.
• Use the search box to find a site quickly.
• Click the eye icon to reveal a password (you may be prompted by your OS to authenticate).
• Remove obsolete entries using the Remove button.

Security and privacy

• Breach checks are designed to avoid exposing your saved passwords. The alert reflects reported breaches for the site, not a leak of your Waterfox data.
