HTTPS-Only Mode in Waterfox for Android

HTTPS-Only Mode asks Waterfox to use an encrypted HTTPS connection whenever a website supports one. The feature is available in Waterfox for Android but is off by default.

What is the difference between HTTP and HTTPS?

HTTP is the basic protocol browsers and web servers use to communicate. Traffic sent over regular HTTP is not encrypted, so someone on the network may be able to view or alter it.

HTTPS protects the connection with TLS. TLS encrypts traffic between Waterfox and the website and helps verify that Waterfox connected to the intended server.

For example, when HTTPS-Only Mode is active and you visit http://example.com, Waterfox first tries https://example.com.

Enable or disable HTTPS-Only Mode

1. Tap the Waterfox menu button.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap HTTPS-Only Mode.
4. Turn the feature on or off.
5. When turning it on, choose whether to enable it in all tabs or only in private tabs.

Secure site not available

Some websites support only HTTP and cannot be upgraded. If HTTPS-Only Mode is enabled and an HTTPS version is unavailable, Waterfox shows a Secure site not available page.

Tap Go Back (Recommended), or use the device’s Back button, to avoid an unencrypted connection. If you tap Continue to HTTP Site, Waterfox loads the unencrypted version and temporarily allows HTTP for that site.
