Enhanced Tracking Protection in Waterfox for Android

Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) is enabled by default in Waterfox for Android. It uses tracking-protection data based on Disconnect’s list to limit known trackers and other scripts that can follow activity across websites.

Check protection on a website

Tap the protections shield in the address bar while viewing a website. The protections panel shows whether ETP is active and which categories Waterfox detected or blocked.

To change protection for the current website, use the Enhanced Tracking Protection switch in that panel. Turning it off adds the website to the exceptions list and may allow trackers to load there.

Change the protection level

1. Tap the Waterfox menu button.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Under Privacy and security, tap Enhanced Tracking Protection.
4. Turn ETP on or off, or choose a protection level:
   • Standard blocks common tracking categories while aiming to preserve website compatibility.
   • Strict also blocks more tracking content and may cause some website features to stop working.
   • Custom lets you choose which cookie, tracking-content, cryptomining and fingerprinting protections to apply.

Total Cookie Protection

Total Cookie Protection is part of ETP. It keeps cross-site cookies in a separate cookie jar for each top-level website, limiting cookie-based tracking between sites.

If a website stops working, temporarily turn off ETP for that website and reload it. If that fixes the problem, leave an exception only when you trust the site and need the affected feature.

Manage exceptions

1. Tap the Waterfox menu button.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Enhanced Tracking Protection under Privacy and security.
4. Tap Exceptions.
5. Remove a website when you want ETP to apply there again.
