Data Loss Prevention (DLP) in Waterfox
Info
This article applies only to Waterfox desktop on Windows.
Organizations can use Data Loss Prevention (DLP) software to control how sensitive data leaves a managed computer. Waterfox supports compatible DLP agents through the Content Analysis enterprise policy. Depending on the organization’s configuration, the agent can inspect actions such as file uploads or pasted content and allow or block them.
A third-party DLP agent may receive the content and metadata needed to evaluate a configured action. Ask your organization’s administrator which DLP product and rules apply to your device.
DLP indicator
When content analysis is active, Waterfox shows a DLP indicator in the browser chrome. Select it to see the connected agent and more information. The agent can restrict actions such as uploading, pasting or sharing information according to the organization’s policy.
Can I disable DLP?
An administrator normally enables DLP on a managed computer and may lock the relevant settings. If the indicator appears unexpectedly on a personal computer, check for management policies and installed security software, then contact the administrator or software provider responsible for the configuration.
Check the connected DLP agent
Information about an active DLP configuration appears on the Troubleshooting Information page under Content Analysis (DLP):
- Click the menu button.
- Select Help, then More Troubleshooting Information.
- Find the Content Analysis (DLP) section.
The section can show whether content analysis is active, whether Waterfox is connected to an agent and the agent path. If the policy is active but no agent path appears, the configured agent may be unavailable. Contact the device administrator before changing the configuration.
