Set a custom new tab URL in Waterfox
Waterfox can open a website of your choice whenever you create a new tab. The custom address applies to new tabs you open after changing the setting and does not redirect tabs that are already open.
Set the custom address
- Click the Waterfox menu button and select Settings.
- Select Home.
- In Homepage, open the New tabs menu and select Custom URL.
- In the Custom new tab URL field that appears below the menu, enter the complete address, including the scheme. For example, enter
https://example.com. - Open a new tab to test the page.
Waterfox trims spaces from the beginning and end of the address and saves the change automatically. If the address is invalid or unavailable, a new tab can show a loading error.
The Home Content controls customize Waterfox’s built-in Home page. They do not change the website loaded from a custom URL.
Stop using the custom URL
Return to Settings > Home > Homepage and choose one of these options under New tabs:
- Home (Default) opens the built-in Waterfox Home page.
- Blank Page opens a blank page.
Choosing either option clears the saved custom new tab address. Restore Defaults also returns new tabs to Home (Default), but it resets the New windows choice at the same time.
If an extension controls new tabs
An installed extension that replaces the new tab page appears in the New tabs menu as Extension (extension name).
Entering a non-empty custom URL makes Waterfox deselect the active new-tab extension so the custom address can take effect. Waterfox does not disable or uninstall the extension. To give control back to it, return to the New tabs menu and select Extension (extension name) again. Selecting the extension clears the custom URL.
