Add-on badges

Add-on badges shown on addons.mozilla.org (AMO), and sometimes in Waterfox’s Add-ons Manager, describe Mozilla’s review or recommendation status for an extension. These badges come from Mozilla’s add-on program; Waterfox does not assign them.

Badges and what they mean

Mozilla staff and community members select Recommended extensions based on:

  • Strong security
  • Reliable functionality
  • A high-quality user experience

Mozilla manually reviews each extension for policy compliance and continues to monitor extensions after they receive Recommended status. Developers cannot pay Mozilla to join the program. Recommended extensions may be featured on AMO.

Extensions published by Mozilla

Mozilla publishes some extensions that add browser features or other functionality. Mozilla reviews these extensions for security and policy compliance.

Caution label

AMO displays a caution message for extensions that Mozilla staff do not regularly review. This does not necessarily mean the add-on is unsafe, but check the developer’s reputation, user reviews and requested permissions before installing it.

Tips for safe add-on use

  • Check badges and caution labels before installing an extension.
  • Read reviews and ratings.
  • Review requested permissions.
  • Remove extensions you no longer use.
