Quick Actions in the Waterfox address bar


Quick Actions are buttons that appear when you type in the Waterfox address bar. They provide keyboard-friendly shortcuts for common browser tasks, such as clearing history or opening Settings.

Availability varies by Waterfox version, region and language.

What are Quick Actions?

Quick Actions appear below the address bar when you begin typing. Available actions may include:

View available Quick Actions

Enter > in the Waterfox address bar and press Space. You may also see Quick Actions in the address bar menu on the New Tab page.

Use a Quick Action

  1. Click the address bar and type a related command, such as settings or history.
  2. Select a suggested Quick Action with the pointer, or use the arrow keys.
  3. Press Enter.

Turn off Quick Actions

  1. Open the Waterfox menu and select Settings.
  2. Find the address bar suggestion settings.
  3. Clear Quick actions.

You can still use browser menus and keyboard shortcuts for the same tasks.

Troubleshoot Quick Actions

Quick Actions do not appear

  • Check Waterfox update settings and install an available update.
  • Enter > followed by a space to display the complete list.
  • The feature may not be enabled for your version, region, or language.

Quick Actions do not respond or appear inconsistently

  1. Restart Waterfox, then try the action again.
  2. If the problem continues, open the Waterfox menu, select Help, then select Troubleshoot Mode and restart when prompted.
  3. Test Quick Actions again.
  4. If they work in Troubleshoot Mode, disable extensions one at a time in the Add-ons Manager to identify the cause.

Frequently asked questions

Why are Quick Actions available?

Quick Actions make common browser tasks faster to reach from the keyboard. Waterfox lets you disable them if they do not suit your workflow.

Why did the setting appear after an update?

Quick Actions may become available when a Waterfox release incorporates the feature. Use the steps above to change the setting.

Why do unrelated suggestions appear?

The address bar can show search results, browsing history, open tabs and other suggestion types alongside Quick Actions. Configure each suggestion type separately in Waterfox Settings.
